Thoughts on Thursday

I really don't have that much to post about today. Though I am pretty stressed about moving and decorating my new apartment (I plan on writing another post about that sometime soon), I am just generally very happy in life right now. Idk if it's the fact that everything is good with all my friends - most of them are in NYC at this point so it has been really fun to hang out with and see them - or the fact that I have a new crush that I really like (and he's not there just so I have a guy, if you know what I mean, we legitimately get along great. It's so weird but kinda cool and I like it!). Or if it's the fact that I'm excited about swim team practice starting up again next week and the fact that I will get to compete in meets again. Or if it's because I really really like blogging! Or maybe it's because it's Thursday and the long weekend is almost here. I am just so happy! Wanted to share this quote, it's one of my favs:

Have a happy Thursday everybody! Remember to appreciate what you have and make the most of it, everyone always has something to be happy about :)

Sign apartment lease? Check!

Last night WE OFFICIALLY SIGNED OUR NEW APARTMENT LEASE! I am so so happy about that for 2 main reasons:
A photo I took of a part of our lease!
(very restricted bc of all the legality of the
document, but still, pretty cool!)

  1. Though the building had official documentation that we are moving to our new apartment unit on September 7, we didn't have any official lease in writing until last night. It is just a major relief to have this all written down and official!
  2. I actually get to cross something off my "10 Goals for This Year" page. I've been doing a few of the things on the list, but they are more like rolling tasks (ie: don't get fat, etc), so this concrete accomplishment has made me very satisfied :)
Very excited to officially move now. They took down one of our temporary walls that is up in our unit now and they are taking the other pieces down on different dates before we actually move out, so privacy is going to be EXTREMELY LIMITED these next 1.5-ish weeks. I can tell I'm going to get to know my roommates very well during this time. I don't hate it!

Happy Wednesday!

A surprisingly terrific Tuesday

Tuesdays are without a doubt my least favorite day of the week. Mondays I am usually okay with because my rest from Sunday has carried over, so I can deal with them. Wednesdays are the halfway point, and everything gets easier from there. But Tuesdays are my kryptonite. Not. A. Fan.

Have no idea how I found this but it is
PERFECT! Another reason why this
Tuesday is terrific!
Today, however, is not quite as bad! I mean, I screwed up this room booking thing at work and now everyone is in a random room on a random floor (my bad), but everyone is really understanding that I just didn't know how to do it correctly. (Not gonna lie, I'm feeling a little let down by myself right now, but now I know I will never make the same mistake again!)

Also, this morning I was getting ready and my roommates were running around the apartment getting ready too. It was so much fun! They are awesome - I want to start bringing my laptop into the living room and playing music while we all are preparing for our days :) It was a very very good start to my usually least favorite day of the week!

So, happy Tuesday everybody - hope your days are all as pleasantly surprising as mine is so far!

Second Liebster Award on Blogger!

My first day on Blogger, Emie of The World According to Emie nominated me for a Liebster Award! I'm just getting around to it now (ahh sorry it's super late girl!) so here goes nothing:

The Liebster Award is a "favorite blog award", as Liebster is German for favorite. It is given to blogs with under 200 followers and is a good way to recognize small bloggers for their blogs, as well as help them gain exposure and discover other blogs to follow! I love love love this award and am so happy Emie deemed my blog worthy of it :)

Of course, we must go over the rules for me to officially accept this award:
  1. Thank the blogger who nominated me (already did that - thanks again, Emie!)
  2. List 11 facts about myself (ahhhh usually I am AWFUL at doing this on the spot, hopefully I can think of some good things right now!)
  3. Answer the 11 questions my nominator had for me
  4. Nominate other bloggers
  5. Write 11 questions for them to answer
Moving on to Part 2 - 11 facts about myself. Okay, here you go:
  1. I am afraid of seaweed. No idea why, I think it's just the whole part about not being able to see that far under a lake (where the seaweed I've encountered has been) and then feeling it creep up on my leg...ahh it freaks me out just thinking about it! Gross gross gross
  2. I'm naturally a messy person, and I'm really trying to work on that now that I've moved into a nice apartment. I want to stress that I am not dirty, just messy. In other words, there may be my clothes lying all around my room, but I don't leave food out or anything. It's something I'm really trying to get better at though!
  3. I drink all things very quickly. No idea why, it's been something that has happened since I was little. Apparently I was drinking from a sippy cup at a young age because the liquid could get into my mouth faster than a bottle, etc. Kinda a problem when you combine that with alcohol and a low tolerance...#noregrets
  4. I've probably watched the movie Love Actually over 15 times. Ugh I wish this wasn't true because that sounds so pathetic, but I just love the British culture that is throughout the entire film! I really want to move to London (or Australia) in a few years, so I just love watching the movie over and over because for some reason I consider it kind of experiencing British life.
  5. I have a double-cartilage piercing in my right ear. I got it after retiring from swimming in college because I no longer had to worry about wearing a cap and it hurting. It looks awesome and I love it!
  6. I had a MAJOR Ozzy Osbourne obsession when I was in elementary school. It only lasted probably 2 or 3 weeks, but I listened to his music NON-STOP.
  7. I believe that everything happens for a reason. No matter how bad this occurrence may be, it has led me to be who I am today, and I have learned from every experience I've had. I really like the person I'm becoming (ugh, that sounds kinda cocky but I think you know what I mean), so I appreciate everything that has happened to me thus far in my life, both good and bad.
  8. I have an obsessive personality. Sometimes a good thing, other times not so much. But that is why I think blogging is PERFECT for me - there are always new blogs to discover and read! It never gets old!
  9. I want a teeny tiny dog. I used to dislike animals. Not because I have anything against them, I just thought that if I wanted to spend time with anything, I would want it to be a human I can actually talk to. But now in the real world I would LOVE a tiny dog to come home to and play with! Obviously I am too poor right now, but in the future I am DEFINITELY considering it...(Also it would be a girl because they don't have a humping problem. When I come home from a long day at the office I don't want to worry about something that will not leave my leg alone!)
  10. The real world really has made me appreciate everything my mom did for me growing up. I want nothing more than for her to just make me food and do my laundry for like, a week STRAIGHT! Ahh I miss being taken care of now that I'm a real person.
  11. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Blogger platform so far! Very happy I made the switch :) This is great!
Okay, as if you're not annoyed with me enough from those long facts, I now have to answer the questions Emie asked me (Yes, we are moving on to Part 3, people!):
  1. What did you want to be when you grew up when you were 5? Definitely a famous singer. For some reason I had an OBSESSION with wanting to be famous, but now that I see that tons of famous people are WHACK JOBS I'm so happy I'm not!
  2. What is your favorite animal? Tiny dogs :)
  3. What's an interesting talent that not many people know you have? I can wiggle my ears. They're actually abnormally huge, I am self-conscious about them. But I can wiggle them!
  4. What color is your absolute least favorite? (Mine is orange.) PINK
  5. What was the last thing you cooked? Ummm, haven't done this in awhile! Does microwaving oatmeal count?
  6. What is one of your favorite hobbies? Blogging! I'm getting to be obsessed...
  7. Is there a sport you wish you played, but never did? Sometimes I wish I stuck with dancing. I used to do it when I was little but then chose swimming instead. It just looks so cool when everyone is in sync and moving in such neat ways!
  8. What are your favorite websites to surf? Buzzfeed - HILARIOIUS. People.com - credible celebrity news. CNN.com - because sometimes I get serious about stuff.
  9. Where do you hope to be in ten years? No idea! Stay tuned...
  10. What's your favorite tv show? Of all time? Friends. Currently on TV? Parks and Rec, Workaholics, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (yes, I have pretty big guy humor when it comes to TV shows)
  11. What is your favorite flower? I've never even thought about this before! Probably a rose because it's super fancy.
Part 4: It's time to nominate my favorite small blogs! YAY I LOVE THIS PART. In no particular order, my nominees are...
  1. What is the most important thing you want your readers to take away from your blog?
  2. If you got a tattoo, what would you get, where would you get it?
  3. Favorite song of all time?
  4. If you could go back to any time period, what would it be?
  5. What is your guiltiest pleasure?
  6. What is your favorite celebrity couple?
  7. What crazy crayola crayon color best describes you?
  8. If you could live in any country other than your own, where would you choose?
  9. What is your favorite holiday?
  10. If you had an entourage with 3 celebrities, who would they be?
  11. What is one non-technological item that you could NOT live without?
Should my nominees choose to accept this award, they must answer these questions and follow these steps. I'm going to go notify them right after I post this.

Thanks again, Emie, for this award! Let's keep spreading that blog love :)

New apartment (part 1)

I have been talking about this for a few posts, but I am officially moved into my new apartment! Here's the deal why my move isn't final. So I found this apartment on Craigslist (and my roommates ROCK, got lucky on that one). The girl that had my room moved out last weekend and I could move my stuff into this place whenever. Unfortunately, the building is renovating this apartment unit, but we got the same exact one 5 floors below. We're moving there on September 7th (after we put in the temporary walls again and such).
Living room right when you walk in!
Another view of the living room.

Soooo, I am living like a semi-homeless person/college student again. I don't want to order furniture to this apartment if I'm just going to move in 2 weeks, so I am sleeping on a blow-up mattress. I also
Hanging rod and some of the pink bins.
#collegeliving
have saved these bright pink (not upset about it) bins that I had all throughout college, which is what a lot of my stuff is in for the time being. And I have a hanging rod in my room for the clothes that don't fit in my closets because I don't have a dresser or anything yet.

Even though this situation is not completely ideal, it is MUCHHH better than the place I lived in before this. Luckily I LOVE the color pink, so I'm not really upset about my room looking like a pink explosion happened in it :)

My windows (love this view)! And those
beautiful bins.
Also note the blow-up mattress.

It's so nice, everything is set up since the girls have been living here for an entire year- I've been just hanging out and watching TV in our living room all day. My roommates are really cool and so nice. Since they're both not here this weekend we are going to do something this week to get to know each other better. (Well, they already know each other since they were roommates before, but I don't know them very well OBVI)

I could definitely get used to this living arrangement! Just have to worry about moving into our new place in a couple weeks.

Very very happy right now!

Pit and Peak: week of 8.19.13

It's time for the usual week in review! Lots of peaks this week, but I think I have one that stands out the most :) Let's begin, shall we:

Pit: The pit of my week was dealing with summer apartment roommate. Basically, my summer apartment was owned by this guy who leased out 3 rooms to people. A new guy moved in for the last month and he LITERALLY had a different one of his friends sleeping on the couch in our teeny tiny living room EVERY NIGHT since he got there - so since I only had a little time left there I confronted him about it and let him know that that wasn't going to fly. All of last week when I was in the apartment packing to move IT WAS SO AWKSAUCE! And he completely trashed the apartment common space with his friends. Apartment living gone wrong over there.

Just walked over to my window and snapped this bad
boy. (Like the lights on our balcony?!)
Peak: Related to the pit, the peak of my week was OFFICIALLY moving into my new place! All my stuff is here as of yesterday and I could not be any happier. I've been hanging in our living room all day (my roommates are both gone until tomorrow night bc they both went home for the weekend, mixed emotions about that bc they're both so cool but it is kinda nice to be able to adjust by myself and have some alone time). It's SO NICE to have a livable space! And the view I wake up to is completely unreal - I can't get over it!

Ahh New York life is great :)

Exploring Soho!

The other day my friend Kristy and I decided to really explore Soho. When my friends lived around there last summer, I had been in the neighborhood a few times, but I knew NOTHING about NYC back then. Now that I have a better grasp of the city I wanted to really explore it!

Such a cute area!
We decided to meet there and grab a bite to eat, then walk around and shop. I absolutely LOVED it! The neighborhood is definitely one of my favorite in New York - I could really see myself living there in a few years.

The outside seating area of Soho Park (courtesy oyster.com)
Obviously we had to get food while we were there, so we went to this place Soho Park - it was GREAT! They have outdoor and indoor seating, you order your food at the register and then they bring it to you. Very efficient, and the food was REALLY good! I was bad and got the french fries - they came with 2 different dipping sauces (there's a list of I believe around 6). Ahhh I was in heaven!

After stuffing our faces, we walked around and went into a few stores. I had heard great things about shopping in Soho so I had pretty high expectations, and actually being able to experience it was amazing. Unfortunately I didn't end up buying anything - needed to hold onto the little money I had that day. But I think I want to go back soon and do some good quality shopping!

A great day in a great New York neighborhood. I love living in this city!

My first Soul Cycle experience

Last night I was supposed to go to dinner with my new roommate (I've kind of moved in to my new apartment, details to come about that in another post). We wanted to have a girls night where we went to a cute place, drank wine, and got to know each other better.

Then, yesterday, I got a text while I was at work:

"Hey, do you want to go to Soul Cycle instead tonight? We can get dinner and drink in our apartment after, I just really want to go and get a good workout!"

Now, I am really not a fan of exercise in general, that's why I joined an adult swim team, because I don't like working out if I'm not training for something. But I had heard some interesting things about Soul Cycle and how it is an amazing workout (even though it's pretty pricey), so I decided to go.

We went to the 8:30 class in Noho. It wasn't packed (which I guess apparently these classes always are), but that's probably because we are the only crazy people who would do this on a Thursday night (Seriously cannot believe I did this instead of actually going out!). The place was SUPER fancy - very white and chic - I loved the atmosphere! They do a great job of setting the mood of the entire place.

These are the fancy shoes. They are difficult to walk in.
That was fun to figure out!
You have to get these special shoes for the bike. Because it was my first time, they were free, but usually they are $3 and clip into the bike. So you are basically chained to this piece of workout equipment and forced to spin your brains out. Also you need to book your bike in advance! (Especially important for the classes the fill up, unlike the one we were in).

The class itself was great! They incorporated core exercises and free weights for various upper body lifting. And all that was done while spinning! I was a little disappointed of how out of shape I was. I couldn't do the entire thing all out. Swimming is in a 2 week hiatus right now because the pool is closed, but once I get in shape I want to go back again.

We actually decided that we are going to go back right before Thanksgiving. That will give me time to improve my overall fitness AND then I will be able to eat as much as I want during the holiday! Win-win situation over here.

So yes, overall AMAZING experience. Our instructor was great, and I had a good time (despite feeling like I was dying for the majority of it)!

The Liebster Award: Blogger Edition

So on my other blog, I've gotten a few of these, but this Liebster Award is SUPER special to me because it is my first on on the blogger platform!

Alex of Monster Misa nominated me for this blog! Ahhh so cool, and so so nice of her :) I could not be more thrilled. Basically, The Liebster Award the Liebster Award is a Favorite Blog Award – Liebster is German for “favorite”. It is awarded to a blog that has less than 200 followers. It’s a great way to interact with other smaller blogs and to get everyone more connected! HOW COOL! (And very necessary for me on this blog right now. My follower count is currently very pathetic and clearly I need some help with that, haha)

To formally accept this award, the nominated blogger needs to do several things:

  1. Recognize the totally blogger who nominated you (Tagging their blog in this post to fully recognize what an awesome blogger they are!)
  2. Write 11 things about yourself.
  3. Answer the 11 questions the blogger who nominated you asked.
  4. Nominate new bloggers! (WoOoOoOoOoOo!)
  5. Write 11 questions of your own for the bloggers you nominate.
Okay, Part 1 has been completed - thanks again Alex! Really really appreciate it :)

Part 2, 11 things about myself. Yikes, okay here it goes:

  1. I've been debating about the Wordpress vs Blogger platforms for a couple weeks now. After a loooooong consideration process, I think I'm going to go with this platform. There's just so much more opportunity for blogs to grow on here, and I LOVE the different customization options!
  2. I am OBSESSED with the color pink. Seriously, my friends all think it’s ridiculous. Even looking around my newly set-up room right now, there is an overwhelming amount. I think I may have a sickness…
  3. I have known that I wanted to go into advertising since my sophomore year of high school. I don’t remember what it was a commercial for, but I remember watching it and thinking “I can DEFINITELY do better than that!” So I picked advertising, and everything I have learned about it since that moment has made me more and more interested. I LOVE this industry!
  4. My greatest fear is being boring (sounds pathetic but it’s true).
  5. Christmas is my favorite holiday. HANDS DOWN. Even though it’s absolutely freezing, November-January 1 is my favorite time of year.
  6. I have a really bad sense of style right now. Hoping that by following a lot of these fashion blogs I can learn to fix that!
  7. I have a very hard time telling right from left, which has sometimes made driving and getting to places very challenging.
  8. The first sip of alcohol that I EVER had was at the end of September during my freshman year of college. It was Natural Light (or natty, as we call it). I went into college a very serious swimmer, so we didn’t drink in high school. I had fun without it! I was too afraid to drink even at the beginning when I first started college, but then curiosity got the best of me. My friends today call me “the biggest college success story”. Haha, yikes!
  9. I experience an unreal amount of anxiety when I am running late. I am an incredibly easy-going person and don’t stress out about a lot of things, but if I am running late, I lose it! (I think it may be because my mom is a very on-time person, I get it from her)
  10. One day I want to move to either London or Australia – two of the coolest cultures that speak English (since I know no other languages).
  11. I'm very excited to see what happens in my transition to the blogger platform! Very optimistic about the new opportunities that are here. And so happy that I was nominated for this award so early in the transition process :)
Okay, now that you know those 11 things about me, on to Part 3 - answering Alex's questions!

  1. Who is your favorite designer and why? Ahhhh this is what shows when I say I am TERRIBLE at fashion. I'm gonna go with Michael Kors just because I do love all his stuff, and it's semi-affordable if I want to save up for it!
  2. What are your best tips for saving money on purchases? If you are questioning it in the store, just don't buy it - when it's new is when it is most appealing to you. If you don't like it at first, you aren't gonna like it when you get it home, and then you won't wear it and will have wasted your money!
  3. On your perfect day, what do you do? Hmmmmm, probably wake up (not hungover!) and go to brunch with friends. Then spend the day shopping or lying around on the beach. Go to a nice dinner, then go out for the night!
  4. What is your favorite food? Bagels - so lucky I'm in NYC for that very reason!
  5. Whats that one fashion item you would love to afford but currently cannot? No idea. Probably a nice dress - I LOVE DRESSES!
  6. What trend are you most excited about this fall? I've been hearing a lot about the Cat eye sunglasses, so probably those!
  7. Whats your favorite magazine? Cosmo.
  8. Favorite item in your closet currently? This little red dress I have that I wear out. I just have so much confidence when I'm in it!
  9. Name 3 words that describe you. Happy, outgoing, determined
  10. What is your favorite food? Another one?! At this rate I'm so poor I'll eat anything that's free :)
  11. Why did you choose to start a blog? I wanted to document my first year out of school in NYC. But now that I've been doing it a few months and have switched to this platform, I want to try to grow my audience and learn from what others are doing!
YAYY it's Part 4 time. This is where I nominate other small blogs for the award! And the nominees (in no particular order) are...
Congrats to all the nominees - you guys totally deserve this award and I cannot wait to let you know you have been nominated!!

Now I have to write some questions for my nominees to answer (Part 5). Here they are:
  1. If you could go back in time to any time period, when would it be and why?
  2. What is your biggest fear?
  3. What do you think is your best personal trait?
  4. Hot or cold weather?
  5. Favorite food?
  6. Who is your current celebrity crush?
  7. What is the main philosophy by which you live your life?
  8. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
  9. What is your favorite movie genre?
  10. What is your weirdest talent? (We all have one – don’t be shy!)
  11. What is your favorite part about blogging?
Okay, now I'm off to tell these bloggers about their nominations!

Thanks again, Alex, for this award :) I love love love your blog and am so honored you chose me.

Here's to spreading the small blog love, and to The Liebster Award, of course!

Weird Things Seen Around NYC: protests

This is happening outside my apartment...

20130820-195015.jpg

So grateful - ANOTHER Liebster Award!!

Okay I feel sooo bad bc this is incredibly late, but I have another Liebster Award to formally accept. Now, the Liebster Award is supposed to be for blogs with less than 200 followers, but I'm doing this anyways because I feel like I am still so new to the blogging game, AND I want to help spread the word of other smaller blogs :)

So, Kristen of The Woman in the Dress was so sweet and nominated me for The Liebster Award! Basically, the Liebster Award is a "favorite blog award", as Liebster is the German word for favorite, beloved, or dearest. So so so nice of you, thanks so much lady!! It is meant for smaller blogs with less than 200 followers to help expose them to the world and help them discover other bloggers through those you nominate, too! I really really like this award - the posts always have so much interaction and I end up discovering a lot of blogs from other posts' nominations!

Four for my fourth nonimation!

In order to formally accept this award, the nominee must do several things:

  1. Each nominee must link back the person who nominated them.

  2. Answer the 10 questions which are given to you by the nominator.

  3. Nominate 10 other bloggers for this award who have less than 200 followers.

  4. Create 10 questions for your nominees to answer.

  5. Let the nominees know that they have been nominated by going to their blog and notifying them.

Alrighty, so Part 1 is done. Thanks again, Kristin, YOU DA BEST :)

On to Part 2 - answering the questions that my nominator (that is actually a word - score!) asked me. Here it goes:

  1. What is one thing you couldn’t live without? Ugh, this sounds so millennial of me, but my cell phone. It's literally glued to my hand all day - it sits next to me at work and I never leave the house without it. (Sidenote: sometimes I even bring it to the bathroom. Woahhh too much information there, sorry about that folks!)

  2. What is your favorite item in your closet? This little red dress that I have that I wear out - it fits great and is really tight but makes me look super good. I always have so much confidence when I wear it!

  3. What would be your dream vacation? Going to a beach anywhere - I do really like Maui though :)

  4. What is one of your biggest fears? I legitimately have gerascophobia - fear of aging. Also one of my biggest fears is being boring. (Not kidding about that)

  5. Which kind of shopping do you prefer: online or in store? Totally depends on what I'm buying. And how I'm feeling. If I am being lazy I won't want to do it in-store but usually I like to buy clothes in-store and then I can buy other things online. But I also like to look at those other things in-store before I buy them. Ahh I guess you could just say in-store for that then!

  6. Favorite food? Bagels. Good thing I'm in NYC!

  7. What is one thing a lot of people don’t know about you? Hmmmm probably that I have this big fear that everyone thinks I'm annoying and doesn't like me. I think everyone may have this but I don't really ever show that I'm insecure. I think people would be surprised to find that out.

  8. If you could trade places with any celebrity for a day, who would it be? Jennifer Lawrence. She is so awesome. Girl crush!

  9. Foundation first or coverup? I never really use coverup, so foundation ALL THE WAY!

  10. What are your hopes for your blog? Idk yet! I feel like it's not old enough for me to know! Stay tuned for that one...

Okay on to Part 3Nominating new bloggers for the award! YAYAYAYAY ahh okay including this post will make 40 blogs that I have nominated, so I really apologize if there are duplicates!!

Seriously, check out all of them! You definitely won't regret it :)

IT'S QUESTION TIME (aka: Part 4)! Okay, I'm being kinda a cop-out and using the same questions I used in my other Liebster Award post, but it's only because I reallyyyy like them and I love seeing people's answers to them!!

  10. What is your favorite part about blogging?

Finallyyyyy, now it's time to notify my nominees (otherwise known as Part 5). Oh YAY they are about to find out - this is my favorite part :)

Thanks again Kristen! Keep spreading the blog love everyone - you never know what blogs you'll find through these new nominees!

I like him :)

Alright, I promised an update about the guy that I saw on Saturday night (I mean, the whole thing made it to the peak of my week - there's some good stuff there!). Here it is:

I went to get drinks with Kristy and Chloe before going out. Our friend had bought a table at a club in Midtown, so we wanted to drink a little beforehand. The guy that I was going to meet up with was going out in Murray Hill that night, so we wanted to stop by and say hi for a few minutes and then head to the other club. (For all I knew, this guy could be a total WEIRDO! I hadn't seen him in over 2 months and I had no idea what his deal was.)

He texted me that they were at Joshua Tree (known to be the DOUCHIEST bar in
the neighborhoodall of Manhattan). I didn't know what to expect. We go into the bar and I saw him from a distance. I didn't really know what to do - should I just go up and say hi? Should I take 10 shots beforehand? I was having a slight mental breakdown.

Where the magic happened...Joshua Tree.
Where the magic happened...Joshua Tree.

Kristy and Chloe went to the bathroom to give me time to say an initial "hello" and kinda scope out the situation. I decided to just go for it.

I walked up to him and tapped his shoulder. He turned around and I gave a little "hey!". A grin spread across his face and he gave me a hug. We started talking and literally didn't stop the entire night (aside from when we were dancing, of course ;)). It worked out well because Kristy and Chloe hung out with his friends that were at the bar too - Kristy ended up staying out with them until 4am! I feel bad, we didn't go to our friend's table at the club, but this was definitely a better decision.

Anyway, he was just like I remembered him. But better. Literally so so so nice and incredibly fun - I can't believe that it took us this long to meet again! And today Chloe told me that all of his friends kept telling her how nice he was and how he was such a good guy (I would call bullshit on that, but he went to high school with one of my friends from college who said literally the EXACT SAME THING about him).

Obviously he ended up coming back to my apartment and staying the night (sparing some details here :)). I wasn't sure if that was all he was looking for though. I've said this before, but I really don't want something serious right now in my life. So even if he only wanted something for that night, I would be okay with that - I had A LOT of fun.

But yesterday afternoon (he left my place in the morning to go home to Jersey to go to church), he texted me asking how my day was. AND we talked all day today. We both told each other how we don't really like texting, so that's a pretty big deal for both of us.

Soooo yea. He is great. I am so happy with the situation right now - for now I don't want it to get too serious, especially us being so young and just entering the real world. But there is definitely something awesome there between us. I don't want to let this go, at least for the moment. :)

Could I use ANY MORE smileys in this post? :)

The Liebster Award: Third Edition

Woah, I am INCREDIBLY late in this, but I am finally getting around to my Liebster Awards that two incredible bloggers have nominated me for! I know that this is supposed to be for blogs with 200 followers or less, but I feel like it can't hurt to share other smaller blogs that I really like, and hopefully you guys won't mind learning a few things about me in the process, too :)

liebster_award_badges (1)

This post is the nomination from Aimee of stilestilo. First of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Seriously I am so honored that you deemed my blog worthy of this. So happy that we are blogging buddies, too!

For those of you that don't know, the Liebster Award is a Favorite Blog Award – Liebster is German for “favorite”. It is awarded to a blog that has less than 200 followers. It’s a fabulous way to interact with other smaller blogs and to help them get discovered. Everyone can help each other grow their blogs and awareness in the blogging world. I love this award!!

To accept this award, I must do several things:

  1. Link back and recognize the blogger who nominated me.

  2. Answer the 10 questions that have been given to me by the nominator.

  3. Nominate 10 other bloggers for this award - they must have less than 200 followers!

  4. Create 10 questions for my nominees to answer.

  5. Let my nominees know they have been nominated by going to their blog and notifying them. (<--That is my favorite part BY FAR!)

Okay, so Part 1 has been done in the first part of this post. But one more time, THANKS SO MUCH AIMEE (seriously, check out her blog, it rocks!)!!!

On to Part 2. It's question timeeee!

  1. What is your favorite designer? Woah, okay I am very not picky when it comes to clothes and designers, but I would probably have to say Michael Kors.

  2. Why is he/she your favorite designer? All of his products are great! And not too too expensive so I can afford some :)

  3. If you could chose any city to live in, which one would it be? New York!! I love it here. Everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime.

  4. What language would you like to speak? I'm pretty content with English, but I think it would be really cool to know Italian.

  5. Who is the most important person in your life? I wouldn't say only 1 person is the most important, but my family and friends are definitely all super important to me. I have no idea what I would do without them.

  6. Why did you start blogging? I originally started this blog to document my first year outside of college and struggling to make a living in NYC, but now I am going to keep doing it longer! I LOVE blogging!!

  7. Do you rather wear heels or flats? It depends, I love heels but I tend to go for guys that are near my height (I just feel like they are nicer and have better personalities), so in that case, flats all the way!

  8. What sport do you like the most? To watch? Football. To do? Swimming.

  9. What do you think about the new issue on the latest Vogue: About Cat eye Sunglasses? (good trend?) Haven't heard about this, but I like really big sunglasses. I may have to give the Cat eye a try though!

  10. What do you think about my blog? I LOVE IT!

Time for Part 3! Nominating 10 blogs for the award! YAY, okay these are my nominees in no particular order:

Check them all out when you get a chance - they are such talented bloggers and I really enjoy reading each and every one of them :)

Part 4 - my questions!

  10. What is your favorite part about blogging?

Part 5 will be me alerting all my nominees! They will then have to do all the steps I did and then the Liebster Award will officially be theirs :)

Keep spreading the love, everyone! I have another one of these I need to do, so I'll be able to tell you guys about even more blogs!

Pit and Peak: week of 8.12.13

Pit & PeakSoooo much to be happy about this week! Obviously have to do the low point and high point so here it goes:

Pit: The pit of this past week for me was Wednesday. I was EXHAUSTED and at the end of the day, all I wanted was for my mom to pick me up from work, drive me home, do my laundry, and feed me. Of course she cannot do that since my family still lives in Chicago, and I am a real person now so it's time to accept those responsibilities. UGH.

Peak: The peak of my week was definitely LAST NIGHT. My friends and I met up with this boy that I have been talking to that I met my first night out in NYC. I wasn't sure how that would go because I hadn't seen him in over 2 months and I was pretty drunk the first time when we met, so who knows if that was worth pursuing. But it ended up being totally AMAZING and he is SO COOL! I'll write more about it in another post. But ahhhh literally last night was the perfect night :)

An overall GREAT week! Let's hope next week is just as good, or better! (Which it will be since I'm going to start moving into my new apartment!!!)

Why (my) guy friends are the best friends

Girls suck.

There, I said it. We are always bitching, always getting in fights, always looking for ways to drop those last few pounds because we're so fat. I have a solid group of girl friends, I'll have you know. But they have gone through Social Darwinism for real. Survival of the fittest. They are the ones that have superior traits!

Getting back to the point of this post, guy friends are the best. I've already told you guys about James, my best friend in the whole entire world. But he is not who I am going to talk about. There's a whole other group of weirdos I need to introduce you to!

I have a core group of friends from college. It is me, 7 guys, and 2 other girls. And it is the best thing in the world. For some reason, this group just works well together. Everyone is pretty different - we have a few of them who majored in classics, some in business, some pre-med. We are all over the place!

All of us (minus 1 of the girls) before a formal event we all went to :) FANCY!
All of us (minus 1 of the girls) before a formal event we all went to. FANCY!

But when we hang out, there is no drama. Everyone is just looking to have a good time, not start some kind of bitch fight about the girl across the room wearing the EXACT SAME shirt as them. Even if there are fights, they don't last very long. There was actually this HUGE fight that broke out when we played Beer Olympics. That's the thing about this group, they are very relaxed, but SUPER competitive. Luckily everything was resolved by the next day and everyone jokes about it now. Phew!

3 of the guys from this group are actually moving to NYC soon! And I am SOOOOO excited because I have missed them all so much! I used to go to their house (yes, my 7 best guy friends all lived under the same roof our senior year of school and they managed to survive) every afternoon and just hang out for hours. Yes, that means that I have heard a lot of conversations girls don't typically hear. Yes, that means that I am AMAZING at Nintendo 64.

It makes me incredibly sad that I can't just see all of them any time I want - I don't even know when we will all be in the same room again. UGH.

They seriously are the best!

Self-tanner experience #1: St. Tropez Day 2 results

For the first and second posts of this St. Tropez trial series, visit here (first post) and here (second post).

Okay, I've used the St. Tropez self-tanning lotion TWICE now. And today I woke up much happier to the results that I saw! My color still isn't THAT that tan, but I am definitely darker than when I started. (Also, I do just want to apologize for these pictures, I literally take them RIGHT when I wake up. I promise I don't go around the entire day looking like I do here! Also they are still not the best quality, I think its bc of the bathroom lighting and the fact that I am in desperate need of a new phone, WHICH I will hopefully have taken care of in a month!)
After (very subtle difference, the lighting in my bathroom right now is awful also, keep in mind!)
After 1 use

After 2 uses
After 2 uses...

The color that this lotion gives you is really nice. No orange undertones like a lot of the cheaper tanning lotions. I think that after a few more days of regular use I will have a nice, healthy glow :)

Still not the best product for immediate results, but it is REALLY high quality!

Toys "R" Us in Times Square

Last night I went back to being an 8 year old. I got dinner with James and while we were passing the time before his bus at Port Authority, we decided to go to Times Square. While we were there, James turned to me and asked "Have you ever been to the Toys "R" Us here?".

I gave him a blank stare back. Of course I have never been to the Toys "R" Us here, I'm not six years old! Instantly catching his mistake and remembering that someone who doesn't go to NYC before they are 21 (that was me, folks) doesn't make Toys "R" Us a priority on their to-do lists when they get here, he said, "WE ARE GOING NOW!"

I have truly never been in such a magnificent toy store! There were so many different sections - you have a spot for toddlers, a Jurassic Park spot, a Barbie section (that would TOTALLY have been my fav when I was little).

T-Rex! (In the Jurassic Park section, obvi)
T-Rex!

...and James next to it. (Doesn't he look COOL?! Not.)
...and James next to it. (Doesn't he look
COOL?! Not.)
Best of all, there is a giant Ferris Wheel in the middle of the entire store! Ahh it looked so fun but I didn't want to embarrass myself and ride it. Or pay for it. #impoor

Ferris Wheel! Sorry, I reallyyy need to get better at taking pictures. Let's just blame my crappy phone for this one!

Overall though, it was definitely a lot cooler than I was expecting it to be. I don't have a picture of this (James took it on his phone) but in the bike and scooter section I tried on this SWEET helmet that had these spikes going down the middle. It looked like I had a neon mohawk! Yes, I went all out and literally turned into a child during the half hour I was there. It was also funny because we were both wearing our work clothes and running around the store acting like little kids - there was just so much to see and do! No regrets about anything at all.

No matter how old you are, if you ever get some free time when you're in NYC try to put it on your "places to go" list!! You can thank me later :)

Oh to be 8 again...

Self-tanner experience #1: St. Tropez results

I was soooo excited about this St. Tropez tanning lotion that I tried, I couldn't wait to wake up and see the results!

Slightly disappointing, I have to admit.

The tinted self-tanner that I usually use shows DRAMATIC results after the first application. It's usually like - woah, did you go on an overnight vacation?! I do understand that using a non-tinted self-tanner can take some time, so I am going to keep applying it every night and seeing what happens!

Pros

  • An EXCELLENT moisturizer!

  • No streak marks (for those of us who use self-tanner regularly, this is very important!)

  • No stains on my PJs

  • A nice color - not orange (from the little color I have from it)

  • Neutral smell (ALSO extremely important if you plan on using self-tanners on a regular basis)

Cons

  • Not as powerful as I hoped it would be

If you are looking for IMMEDIATE results, this is not for you. But I do like everything about the product so far, just wish I saw a little more color after the first application.

I'll get back to you tomorrow on this and see if I get more color tonight!

Self-tanner experience #1: St. Tropez

I talked about how I am feeling UNBELIEVABLY PALE right now, and someone suggested on that post to try self-tanners and then write about it. So that is what I'm doing now.

This is the bottle! (PS, like my NYC poster
in the background?!)
I went to Sephora today to get new, paler foundation (sad face), and while I was there, I decided to treat myself to a nicer tanning lotion - St. Tropez. It was $30, so A LOT more expensive than what I'm used to paying (I usually use a L'oreal one that you can get from CVS or Target or something), but desperate times call for desperate measures. The lady at the cash register also said that it works VERY WELL and that I should watch the more detailed parts of my skin (ie elbows, near the eyes, etc). Very interested to see if she is right.

I've just applied the lotion and I guess we will see how it looks tomorrow! It isn't tinted so that's good that it won't get all over my sheets and clothes while I sleep tonight. It also went on pretty thick, so I really feel moisturized! My skin feels so soft :)

The before shot...(sorry I look extremely awful here, it's been a loooong day!)
The before shot...(sorry I look extremely awful here, it's
been a looooong day! And I'm concentrating hard.
And I'm pale.

Okay, to be continued!

About a boy

SoOoOo dreamyyyy
Yes, I copied this post title from that movie with Hugh Grant. Yes, this post is about a boy. No, I am not looking to be tied down in a relationship at this point in my life. (See this post for my current thoughts about that)

So why am I writing this post?

I am actually not entirely sure! So I met this guy wayyyy back when at my first work happy hour at the beginning of the summer. Some of you may have read that post, but to fill everyone in, he works in NYC but lives in New Jersey. He went to a college in NYC so he tends to not come back during weekends (actually, he has never been back during a weekend now that I think about it). I can understand that, 4 years of this city would be a lot, everyone is entitled to take a break!

The thing is, I haven't seen him since that happy hour! I am not a big texter - I get frustrated with how long it takes to type stuff out, and I would just prefer to talk to someone in person. So we don't text that much, just a couple times a week to basically check in and see how each other is doing. He is also bad at texting, which for some reason falls under "my type". If a guy is good at texting, I consider that a warning sign.
Save the date for Saturday!
But anyways, it apparently was his birthday last night (which I found out when he let me know that he was in the city for it). But I had just finished up with swim practice and needed to take care of some personal housekeeping stuff, so I couldn't see him.

We just always miss each other on timing, our work schedules don't work well together either! We have also invited each other to various happy hours over the summer, but, not surprisingly, the timing has always been off.

Since I'm not looking for anything serious right now, I am keeping this on the backburner. I don't get upset when things don't work out because I know that when the timing is right, I'll see him again. :) We got along reallyyyy well, there was something there for sure. I need to see him again in person to properly assess.

Supposedly he will actually be in NYC this Saturday and we are going to see each other for a little...we will see if that actually works out!

Waiting for the next iPhone...

Check that out! If this is what it could be, I am DEFINITELY waiting!

I had a dilemma about this a little bit ago. My contract with AT&T is up and I need to get a new phone. Last time I mentally debated this, I was leaning towards the Samsung Galaxy s4. However, I've done some recent research and have decided to go with the iPhone.

Now, before judging me too harshly, there is an article I found on cnn.com that discusses how the next iPhone will be released in September. ANDDD it's supposed to be SUPER cool! The main problem I have right now with the iPhone is the amount of face area that is non-screen, and I think this is going to change with the next model. (Seriously read the article, it seems AWESOME!)

So that is the direction I am leaning towards right now. And one of my coworkers told me that if I don't like the new model, then the iPhone will be cheaper when the new one is released, so it seems like a win-win to me :)

Things are looking up :)

The 3 of us at a formal a few months ago :)
The 3 of us at a pregame for a formal
a few months ago.
So I haven't provided an update about the whole situation that is going on between Chloe, Lisa, and me. Basically, we went out together to our other friend from college's open bar (at Public House!) the other night.

We all decided to meet at McFaddens beforehand because it is pretty close to Public House. I came earlier than Chloe and Lisa did (they came together because they live near each other). I saw Chloe walk in with Lisa following behind. Now, I am probably the best person at not being awkward, so I was not concerned about the situation at all and how I would act when seeing Lisa for the first time since the incident (it also didn't hurt that I had already polished off my gin & tonic by the time they had arrived).

Lisa came up to me to say hi, and I could tell she was hesitant and didn't know how I was going to react. But I decided to just act completely normal and gave her a huge hug. We made small talk and caught up a little bit which was nice. Then we all headed to Public House, where our night was only just beginning.

I won't go into any more details about the night, but I was very happy with how everything turned out. Lisa was really fun to hang out with, I forgot how much I missed her!

Buttttt (oh yes, there is ALWAYS a twist), Lisa had this big finance exam yesterday for her job and both myself AND CHLOE, forgot to text her good luck for it! UGH, we both felt completely terrible when we both got texts from her saying she passed. I apologized via text, and so did Chloe, but we still felt like such terrible friends.

We decided that we will go out to drinks/pregame a night together in order to celebrate Lisa's achievement!

So yea, everything is okay as of now. Hopefully all the drama is gone for forever :)

To tan or not to tan?

I miss this!
I'll admit it. I LOVE TANNING. In college all 4 years I had the unlimited monthly tanning package (in which my freshman year I was RIPPED OFF because the lady told me to go with the most expensive package, and I later learned that I only really needed the most basic one just to maintain some color year-round) and I HATEEE being pale. I'm not saying that everyone should be tan, there are some people who pull off being pale BEAUTIFULLY (case in point: Anne Hathaway, Emma Stone, Amanda Seyfried, and the list goes on and on).

I am not one of those people.

Which is why I am debating trying to find a cheap tanning place in the city. Idk, I just haven't been able to get my act together to be outside for extended periods of time on weekends. Being in the city, it's hard to find places to go to wear a bathing suit and be outside. Besides Central Park, but sometimes it's just TOO HOT, and I need some place with water.

OY, I am being such a baby, apologies everyone!

But anyways, I am SICK of being pale. Once I move I am going to look up places near my building so I can go back to being the tan human I know I can be! (Sidenote: there is also just something so relaxing about being in the tanning bed. When all the bulbs are on and you can take a quick powernap and wake up tanner, it literally is one of my favorite feelings EVERRR)

Yes, I am expecting backlash from this post. No, my opinion about tanning will probably not change from it.

Bloglovin part 2

Okay, I've done this before on my other site, but I need to set Bloglovin up for this blog now. So I need to put this ridiculous looking link in a post (see below). Bloglovin is awesome because it allows you to follow blogs from different platforms and get all blog updates in the same place! I really reallyyy like it!

Show me a little (blog)love?

First post on the Blogger platform!

Hi everyone!

Okay, so I have been blogging for a few months now on http://crazynypostgradlife.wordpress.com/ but I'm not sure WordPress is where I want to stay, so I've decided to try out this platform instead. Sorry if everything looks lame for right now, I'm still figuring things out. AND the posts that I've uploaded here from that site are kinda messed up, too. AHHH so much fixing to do!

Anyway, if you are just discovering this for the first time, welcome! Hope you enjoy reading about my NYC experience so far. Can't wait to see what this amazing city has in store for me next! (And I also cannot wait until my site looks super cool - this interface is UNACCEPTABLE right now)

Pit and Peak: week of 8.5.13

Week 2 of this tradition!
I cannot believe it was a week ago that I did this for the first time! It's time for the pit and peak of my past week.

Pit: The pit of my week was definitely having that terrible encounter with my ex-soon-to-be-roommate - Ellen's - boyfriend. You can read about the incident here, but that definitely was my low-point for the week. I hate when people are mad at me! And I had being put into terrible situations. UGH. Still bothered but def not as much as I was right after the fact.

Peak: OBVIOUSLY the peak of my week was finding an apartment!!! Ahhh I had been waiting for so long and it makes me so relieved that everything came together. And that the place is basically a palace. UNBELIEVABLE! Supposedly the other girl moves out in a little over a week, so then I am definitely starting to move my stuff into my new place! YAYAYAYAY

Okay, onto the next week! :) Hopefully this one will be much less dramatic.

Day trip to Governor's Island

Yesterday, I was able to cross something off of my Summer Bucket List - taking a trip to Governor's Island! My friend Lizzy had texted me on Friday asking if I wanted to go to this French festival or something like that that was taking place there. Honestly, I didn't completely want to go all the way there, but I felt like actually going to Governor's Island wasn't going to happen unless I decided to commit to it, so I decided I should go. (Sidenote: get prepared for a picture FRENZY on this post. I took so many because it was so neat there!)

Festival from afar
Festival from afar
It was incredibly fun! Not only is it nice that the ferry ride there is free, the island itself is so beautiful. The festival was primarily for children, but there were a lot of people our age there, as well.  There were vintage-looking rides, live music, food, and a ton of random things to see and experience!

Live music!
Live music!
We ended up going on this swing ride. The line was kind of longer than was necessary, but we figured that we should go out on the limb and wait for it. Since it was so hot outside it actually felt so nice to be swinging in the wind! Definitely was funny to see how old the ride was though - I spent a lot of the ride hoping that it wasn't going to break and that my swing wasn't going to go flying on its own at any point. Yes, we did have to pay $3 to go on it, but it was definitely worth every penny spent.

Swing ride!
Swing ride!
Pocket wall
Pocket wall
One of the coolest things that we saw was this giant sheet with a bunch of pockets on it. You could take a piece of paper and write ANYTHING you wanted and put it in a pocket for someone else to discover and read. Now, if this had been something in an adult environment, things would have gotten OUT OF CONTROL. But all the written things we found in the pockets were so cute. I remember one was something like "Help Africa". Absolutely adorable to think of the little kid that wrote that for others to read.

One thing they don't ever mention about Governor's Island (or at least I never heard it before) was how pretty the view of the Financial District is. I was in complete awe seeing it from that angle - I took so many pictures it was unreal. (OBVI I needed to upload one to Instagram!)

Yup, this is on my Instagram :) Absolutely b-e-a-utiful!
We weren't even there for that long, but by the time we had walked around the entire island, I was EXHAUSTED. An incredibly fun day, and I'm so glad I got off my lazy behind and did it! I will definitely be going back sometime in the future. (And now I have something to add to my NYC Checklist! Still don't know how much I like that title btw)

NYC Checklist

I thought that just having the category "NYC Living" would suffice for this, but I don't think it does. I want to make sure that I have accounted for all the things that I've done in NYC in one unified place.

But fear not! I've come up with a solution.

I've added a new page to my blog - "NYC Checklist". Now I will have a more organized way to archive neat things I've done in this amazing city!

Also, I definitely would appreciate any tips and suggestions on things I should do in NYC - I love when I get your input on things, and I'm sure there's TONSSS of things I am unaware of that are constantly going on, and tons of places that I don't even know exist!

UGH. Also not entirely sure I like the title "NYC Checklist". It's not really a checklist because I don't have things on it that I haven't done that would technically be "unchecked". So I am not sure what I should call it. Open to suggestions on that, too!

Booze Cruise #2: work edition

Yesterday, we had a company outing. And by company outing, I mean my company rented out a 4 story yacht and had a 4 hour open bar while boating around Manhattan. I'd say that's probably on the list of top 5 outings your company can plan. I was so psyched to go on my second booze cruise! (The first one was for a college alumni reunion event I went to earlier this summer)

Not only was it nice to get a day off of work, I got to bond with my coworkers, too. It was great to be able to interact with more senior-level employees on my team - I actually ended up eating lunch at a table with the Account Director, Associate Account Director, and an Account Supervisor. Just us 4. HOW COOL!

HAY GURL! (Yup, I took this!)
One of the best parts of the cruise was when we stopped right in front of the Statue of Liberty. Everyone was taking a bunch of pictures - it was the closest I had ever been to it before! (Next up: going to the top of it!)

After the cruise, my team decided to go to the Frying Pan, where we got completely rained on. It was so fun though, they have AMAZING sangria! (At least I thought so, it's super sweet and I like those kinds of drinks) I had actually really wanted to go there all summer, so it was awesome to finally cross that off my list!

Andddd after that, we went to The Standard Biergarden. One of my coworkers won $1000 in a beer pong game there, so everyone was in great moods! (How unreal is that btw?!) I didn't stay there for very long though because I was getting dinner and drinks with Chloe that night, so I wanted some time to relax before.

So after that, I walked all the way from Meatpacking to Murray Hill to take a nap at my apartment. Yolo.

What an amazing day!

That's not fair

Today, my company had an outing, so we weren't in the office and were drinking the entire day (more to come about that  tomorrow!). But tonight, I got dinner and drinks with Chloe. It was more mellow because we were both exhausted, but it was good to see her and just hang out for a little.

As we were leaving, we were walking down the street when I hear Chloe go "Oh hey". I look up and it's Ellen's boyfriend. (Sidenote, I've officially decided to give her a name, Ellen is my friend that I was going to live with, but it didn't end up working out for a number of reasons.) I didn't really know how to act since a lot of people now know that me and Ellen aren't living together by now, so I also was also like "hi!"

He goes to give Chloe a hug hello and turns to me and gives me a ginormous death stare. SO UNNECESSARY AND RUDE! I decided to ignore it - I'm probably the least awkward person ever so that wasn't that difficult - and I also went in for a hug. He didn't even make eye contact with me while doing so. He then talked to us for about a minute, and when I say "us" I mean only Chloe, and then we parted ways.

Ugh, the entire encounter left me with such a terrible feeling. Ellen was the one who told me to go for it and gave me her blessing - was she lying to me when she said that? We both ended up wanting different things in a place, and her not even being in town when we were looking for places (and not answering her phone for DAYS when I would try to get in touch) didn't help the situation. She put me in such a bad spot, and now I feel like I look like the bad guy.

That's not fair. And now i feel like crap about the whole thing.
